The concept of recognition and awards is to encourage organisations, both public and private, to aspire to be the best in their region, country or industry.  The GEM Council Members represent organisations throughout the globe who have created an Excellence Award to improve the business environments in their country.

Excellence Awards in each country and region

Australia

The Australian Business Excellence Awards have grown out of the rich history of the Australian Quality Awards, founded in 1988, but with a fresh focus on Business Excellence. The Awards' mission is to promote, nurture, recognise and celebrate organisational excellence in all its forms.

The Awards evaluate and promote success in Australian business and as Australia's premier and most rigorous business awards program, the evaluation is truly independent. Organisations that apply are evaluated against the Criteria detailed in the Australian Business Excellence Framework and all organisations operating in Australia are eligible to enter at Award, Category or SME level. The combination of the expertise of the Evaluators and the associated criteria ensure that Award winners are truly excellent organisations.  

Europe

The EFQM Excellence Award is Europe's most prestigious award for organisational Excellence.  It is open to every high performing organisation in Europe and focuses on recognising Excellence and providing detailed, independent feedback to all Applicants to help them on their continuing journey to Excellence.  The EFQM Excellence Award sits at the pinnacle of dozens of regional and national quality awards and Applicants have often been successful in these before applying for European recognition. 

2006 marks the fifteenth cycle of the EFQM Excellence Award.

India

The CII-EXIM Bank Award for Business Excellence, instituted jointly by the Confederation of Indian Industry and Export Import Bank of India in the year 1994, is the most prestigious award in India for Business Excellence that an Indian company can receive. To be an Award winner, a company must demonstrate excellence in results with respect to its various stakeholders (customers, employees, society and share holders) through excellence in processes and people. The award is being administered by CII with the technical support from European Foundation for Quality management.

The Award was established to promote the awareness of business excellence as an increasingly important element in competitiveness. Not only does it recognise excellent businesses, the Award also increases the understanding of the elements critical for business excellence. To accomplish this, the Award promotes information sharing of successful performance strategies and the benefits derived from pursuing these strategies.

Ibero-America

The Ibero-American Excellence Award (IEA) is an Official Program of the Ibero- American Summit of the Heads of the Government and State and it’s based on the IEM. The Awards are given to the winners by the government representatives in the Ibero- American Summit of the Heads of the Government and State. Since 2000, more than 30 organizations have won the IEA with the collaboration of more than 800 assessors of 17 countries.

The IEA is developed with the contribution of the national and regional excellence Awards. The IEA Jury is composed by one representative of everyone of the 22 Ibero- American countries as well as one representative of the CLAD (Latin American Government Organization). The Award process is monitorized by an international committee which integrates experts from 5 Ibero-American Countries.

Japan

The Japan Quality Award was established in 1995 by the JPC-SED to help Japanese corporations and other organizations to improve their competitiveness in the domestic as well as in the global markets.. The Award is given every year to role-model corporations and organizations which have achieved excellent performance by re-emphasizing the importance of customer focus in business management and creating new value for stakeholders through continuous management innovation.

Singapore

Launched in 1994 with the Prime Minister as its patron, the Singapore Quality Award (SQA) is the most prestigious award conferred on organisations that demonstrate the highest standards of business excellence. The Award aims to establish Singapore as a country committed to world-class business excellence.

United States

The Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award is the highest level of national recognition for performance excellence that a U.S. organization can receive. The Award was established in 1987 to recognize U.S. companies for their achievements in quality and business performance and to raise awareness about the importance of quality and performance excellence as a competitive edge. To receive an Award, an organization must have a role model organizational management system that ensures continuous improvement in the delivery of products and/or services, demonstrate efficient and effective operations, and provide a way of satisfying and responding to stakeholders.
